Elmotherm F 50 is an electric insulating heat curing impregnating varnish based on isophthalic alkyd resin. The material does not contain by recipe substances listed in Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive (2002/95/EC)Areas of ApplicationIn electrical machines, Elmotherm F 50 is used both for manufacturing and repairing the following Thermal class F (155) objects: Standardmotors, Generators, Transformers, Drive sinthe chemical industry Drives for ships Properties of cured materialThe cured material displays very good film formation and resistance to chemicals. The relatively elastic varnish film has very favourable temperature cycling behavior. A reduction in the degree of hardness of enamelled wires generally used does not occur if the components are property impregnated.

Application Methods:
  • Elmotherm F 50 is processed by all conventional impregnating methods, such as dipping, rolling or flooding. It can also be processed under vacuum. In this case, the vacuum should not drop below 20 mbar to avoid high solvent evaporation. The most advantageous impregnating method in each case depends on the given technical possibilities of the plant, the structure of the components, and the demands placed on the object to be impregnated under operating conditions. Elmotherm F 50 displays low susceptibility to the influence of foreign substances, such as punching grease, oils or primers, however, contamination of the varnish should be avoided as much as possible. After drainage time of 15-45 minutes at room temperature, the product is cured in the circulating-air oven at the temperatures and periods of time given. For large objects or those with a complicated winding structure a two-stage curing process is recommended to ensure removal of the solvents.

Description:

  • Becktol is an air-drying finishing varnish for protecting electrical machines and appliances against moisture and chemicals. It is distinguished by easy processability and rapid curing at room temperature.
  • Becktol (Red/Grey) is available in 2 colour shades viz. red and grey. The material does not contain by recipe substances listed in Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive (2002/95/EC)


Areas of Application:

  • Becktol (Red/Grey) is used for protecting the following machines and components: Field coils, Overhang of stators, armatures, Transformers


Properties of cured material:

  • The elastic varnish film is distinguished by very good resistance to weak acids and alkalis, benzenes, and hydraulic oils. It prevents ingress of moisture and has good track resistance.
  • A temperature index of 120 enables the varnish to be used for machines and appliances in thermal class B (1300C)


Application Methods:

  • Becktol (Red/Grey)is used as a finishing varnish only, Stators or transformers, for examples, which have already been impregnated with an impregnating resin or an impregnating varnish.
  • Becktol (Red/Grey) can be processed by dipping, brushing or spraying. Using the dipping method, it should be ensured that the impregnating container is always closed before and after use to prevent evaporation of the solvents to avoid an undesired reaction owing to oxidative curing. Becktol (Red/Grey) has to be thoroughly stirred before application. Since it contains fillers and pigments, which has a tendency to settle down during storage.
  • For dipping and brushing, the product is used with the viscosity at which it is delivered.
  • For the spraying method it is recommended to add Thinner 234. Heating the objects to be sprayed to 50- 600C is favorable for the manufacturing techniques since then the varnish film cures more rapidly and, if necessary, a second layer of varnish can be applied after only 10 - 20 minutes.
  • Curing normally occurs at room temperature but can be considerably accelerated with the addition of heat, i.e. hot-air.
